ENGLISH 3 – Final writing task - “Writing a
horoscope”
INDICATOR– In an 80 to 90 – word text, divided in three paragraphs, you must
write predictions of possible future events for three zodiac signs.
SITUATION – Agatha’s Magic Store is releasing a monthly horoscope. You are an
astrologist and your task is to write this month’s horoscope prediction,
related to love, travel and studies. The zodiac signs must be the one of the
month before, and the one of the month after your own.
INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Students will work individually.
2.
Each text must contain:

Prediction of events
-
Future time expressions
3.
The text must be written in full connected sentences.
Criteria Descriptor
CONTENT: Relevance: All the information is related to prediction
of events.
Target
reader: The information is properly addressed to the readers.
Length: Student writes the information using a minimum
of 80 words and a maximum of 90 words.
ACHIEVEMENT: Reader´s attention: The text predicts future events related
to real life.
Communication purpose: The reader is well
informed and easily understands all the text without having to read closely.
ORGANISATION: Coherence and cohesion: The organization
of the text connects all three aspects.
LANGUAGE: Vocabulary: The student uses vocabulary related to time
expressions and future events.
Structure: Time
expressions and prediction of events are written in the correct tense.
Mechanics: Student
makes use of capitalization, punctuation and spelling so it doesn´t interfere with the meaning or communication
purpose of the task.
ENGLISH 3 – Final oral Task
– “Guessing people’s past and future events”
INDICATOR- In a 5-minute session you must talk about a person’s past events and
make predictions based on them.
SITUATION – You work in Agatha’s Magic Store as a fortune teller. Your task is to
guess client’s past events in love, travel and studies and use them to predict
their future.
INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Students will work in pairs, randomly chosen by the
professor.
2.
Each session must contain:
-
The narration of your partner’s past events related to
love, travel and studies.

The prediction of future based on the narration of the
past events.
3.
Students must use vocabulary related to past and
future events and time expressions.
4.
Students must divide the session in three segments:
love, travel and studies, and connect the relationship between past and future.
Criteria Descriptor
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The narration of the events is clear, fluent
and understandable.
PRONUNCIATION : Speaks smoothly, with little hesitation and
adequate pronunciation that does not interfere with communication.
STRUCTURE: The discourse uses time expressions to
describe the events in a proper tense.
VOCABULARY: Uses a variety of vocabulary and
expressions to talk about past events and predictions.
TASK COMPLETION :
Student’s performance shows
understanding of the instructions for the task and this one is completed in the
time given.
